J-Beauty: Less is More Approach

Japanese skincare consists of minimalist approach to a regimen. Maybe, tops 4-6 products. It's not as extensive as others, even Korean or Western approaches don't need to have as many products as part of your routine. The J-Beauty philosophy is a less is more to also avoid irritation & skin barrier disruption. You can find quality products in fewer steps. It's what in the product that counts more as well. Strengthening your skin barrier (and preventing a compromised one) is deemed highly important for resilient & healthy-looking skin. Especially if you face challenges with Sensitive skin. I personally even find myself experiencing better results with lesser products overall.

Of course you can incorporate more if you'd like to your choosing, such as an eye cream, sheet/rinse-off masks, or other treatment-based products. It can be the personal preference of the consumer. So many steps in a regimen is just simply not a necessity is all. You can do so much more with a few well-formulated core products. Also working newer products in slowly if your skin is reactive is more of added benefit to the individual.

*More of a blueprint than following exactly as shown*

   1. A makeup remover or oil cleanser at the end of the day, a foam cleanser can be great but just a water-based cleanser for one's skin type. Foam cleansers may be too drying for a dry skin type, so you can find more hydrating ones as well. Oily/combination skin types may appreciate the foam ones more. Mornings generally only require cleansing once, not a double-cleanse, it may not be for everyone either.

   2. A Cleansing Toner or Hydrating Lotion/Essence can be great to use either pH balance/exfoliation or hydration with added skincare benefits.

   3. My 3rd favorite step, are Serums for targeted treatments such as anti-aging/firming, dark spots, hydration, skin texture, acne, etc. I love layering a good serum before my moisturizer step. For repair & before locking everything in.

   4. My favorite step! Moisturizer (Cream or lightweight emulsion), love a good J-Beauty moisturizer with skin repairing ingredients and hydrating properties for a mochi-skin like finish!

   5.  My 2nd favorite step, Sunscreens are a non-negotiable. Wearing SPF daily is for ultimate skin health and one of the best "anti-aging" products you can use to ward off signs of premature aging and hyperpigmentation, sagging, etc. A broad-spectrum SPF 30 to 50, for Asian sunscreens look for the "PA++++" as previously mentioned in a previous post about J-Beauty sunscreens that's listed on my blog. The formulas are some the best-acting one sunscreens known. Within Asia, they just use more sophisticated formulas with stronger UV filters for sun protection. Since in Asia & Europe they recognize Sunscreen as a "cosmetic", instead as a drug like in the US. So they have a wider array that can be used along with lightweight & more cosmetically elegant textures to formulate with. In the USA, the FDA are just very slow with approving newer UV filters is all. Not to say there aren't great American sunscreen options as well, they've come a long way as well. Again, you can refer back back to my earlier blog post on sunscreens as well. 🧴

Thank you for taking the time to read today.

Facial Oils: Are They Worth It?

Facial Oils seem to be a trendy step in a skincare routine as of lately. They are beneficial for someone who's of a more drier skin type. Some facial oils are filled with antioxidants, fatty acids and other nutrients. However, if you're acne-prone, I wouldn't recommend facial oils even if they're suggested as "non-comedogenic" since there is still no telling if you'll still develop clogged pores from which ever formula that may be. They're meant to coat, protect & lubricate the epidermis (outer most top layer of skin), it's meant to stay & hydrate on the skin's surface with also penetrating the top surface. Leaving it silky, smooth, & soft. There are also some problematic botanical oils that can cause a reaction, something to be cautious about. As well as stay away from essential oils! They are a main culprit to adding a sensitized barrier and a pretty significant amount to a possibility of a reaction (as in a rash, redness, et...

Exosomes & Growth Factors: Regenerative Ingredients

Exosomes are nano-sized extracellular vesicles that have regenerative properties when it comes to skin including many "anti-aging" benefits. They may help with loss of firmness, lines/wrinkles, skin texture, reducing inflammation, hyperpigmentation, helps skin heal faster post-procedure, wound healing, and acne even as part of the multitude of benefits. They are considered the delivery system for the other active ingredients to assist with as part of their formulation. They are cell-communicating ingredients which in tells the other cells to "behave" and repair the skin & damaged cells more accordingly, to promote more collagen & elastin production.     In essence, their genetic makeup is a mixture of proteins, lipids, and nucleic acids. They are able to transport growth factors, hyaluronic acid, peptides, antioxidants to penetrate better into the skin. Whether being coupled with in an-office treatment such as in injectables, lasers, or micro...

Not Being Able To Justify Highly-Priced Skincare

Unfortunately, I cannot justify spending over upwards to $200-$300+ on a skincare product, whether it being on a moisturizer, serum, essence, etc. granted, there are both good & bad formulated products on both ends of the spectrum. I just don't find it entirely necessary to do so. There are very well-formulated products that can meet a person's concerns/needs at your own budget & what you are willing to spend. Really an unnecessary amount to spend when certain brands with more affordable price points have incredible research & development teams when creating some of your favorite products. I thoroughly love & enjoy learning about the skincare science though. 🧑‍🔬✨️✍️ Yours truly always, Mr. Skin Care Guru
